Project Overview:
The site planning area for this project is 6900 square meters. The new comprehensive ward building is to be used for the expansion of current hospital functions, overall campus optimization, and integration of these functions into the total operations of the hospital.
Project Characteristics:
The project is located in a dense central area of city. The site is land locked on all four sides, and thus, there is a shortage of land on the hospital campus. The number of the buildings on the hospital site area is relatively high with the result being a lack of green space. The current traffic flow is disorganized and the medical functions lack needed connections. To the west side of the project site is a residential community. And thus, with any new construction on the project site, the daylighting conditions could affect the adjacent residential area.
Design Concept:
The concept design of a series of stepped terraces for the building is due to managing the amount of sunshine required for the adjacent site. The building shape of the three terraces is meant to carry a strong urban design wall-like character, with the east vertical edge to promote the urban quality of the hospital campus. The vertical design elements are rooted in the landscape characteristics and poetic culture of Quancheng City. Through the combination of metal and glass panels, the podium building appears as a series of horizontal steps. The stepping form is meant to create the atmosphere that a spring is flowing down from stone to stone.
